Marshall Smith, 2013

I was a photographer for the IDDC (Indianapolis Dog and Disc Club) for more than 10 years, taking photos of dogs and their handlers at events throughout the Midwest.
This shot was taken at an indoor competition called JAMuary in 2011, put on by an Ohio club in Milford, OH. No flash was allowed, and the indoor lighting was challenging. Fortunately, a wall of windows gave good light when the dogs would put themselves in it.
Many successful disc dog action shots are serendipitous, and this was one of those. Everything came together: the dog, the light, an action sequence, and a handheld exposure that was, amazingly, sharp enough.

That great dog in that light, and in those dark conditions, suggested that a B&W print of the scene would be the right choice.
